Editing Report 3

FAIRY BREAD PRODUCTIONS  Week(s) Commencing:  18th April - 8th May Editing HOD:  Edwin Nicholson Crew:  Zara Samuels Summary: There has been a large gap in Reports from Editing as there wasn't much to say until last week (2nd May - 8th May).  On the 3rd May the class was shown Version 8 of the Animatic. Once upon seeing this version of the animatic, I was sadly disappointed in the cut. The beginning and end were pretty good, but the middle of the animation was awful. For some reason, the pacing was too fast, the characters had hardly any character beats and much of the surrealism was lost, which in turn made the ending weak. I was not a fan of the cut.  When going around the class hearing what everyone had to say, an overall it was clear that there were still problems with the animatic. So, I went up to the Director, Max and asked him if me and him could sit down together and go through all the animatics to piece together a better animatic. He agreed and later that evening we wen

Storyboard back to Toon boon, a temporary hiccup

Because of the Re-edit of the final Animatic, the original plan of solely using .XML files went out the window. So what has had to be done is that we export every frame and manually sort the scenes out into files. We put the Animatic into premiere and exported every shot as a .JPG. I put this into one big file and then had to make another file directory. This file Directory had Scene labels which clicked on lead to shot labels. We had to manually go through every exported frame and drag the to the right file directory. Those images would then have to be renamed like this: UF_Scene.Shot (Frame number) For example if the Scene was Scene 1, the Shot was Shot 6 and the Frame was Frame 8 the file would be called UF_1.6 (8) I believe they are getting a new naming convention as of writing this blog. but the purpose of this was so we could re-import back into toon boon with the exact frames needed for the shot. For some odd reason we couldn't just do this with video because Toon Boon only

VFX Shot list, The Final List (That can still be changed)

After deciding that V10 of the Storyboard was the one we were going with I made the VFX shot list again for the third time. This time we now know that the shots will not change or have more shots added in. I did use the old VFX shot list as reference, mainly for shots that didn't change. One thing to note in this shot list is I have given Vinnie all of the Cloud Simulations to do as the original jobs I had given him were all removed. I needed to widen the work load as Ian has already a lot going on on his plate. There is more Fluid simulations and Ae compositions now as well. The entirety of the first scene is now top priority, we have 2 weeks to complete it before the crew dinner.
